Collaborate with scientists or engineers to analyze research projects, interpret test outcomes, or develop unique testing methods.

Prepare test solutions, compounds, or reagents for laboratory personnel to perform analyses.

Conduct preparation, extraction, and analysis of target compounds from various environmental sample matrices and sampling equipment or media.

Prepare sampling media prior to field deployment for sample collection, ensuring accurate documentation of the preparation process.

Analyze sample preparations using techniques such as GC/MS, LC/MS, or others. Summarize sample data and report analytical results promptly.

Perform quality control assessments and evaluate them against data quality indicator objectives. Execute corrective actions as directed by QA and/or project management.

Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure optimal functionality and troubleshoot any malfunctions as required.

Compile and assess test data to determine process or equipment efficiency or to identify malfunctions.

Effectively communicate processes, results, and challenges to supervisors and the management team.

Assist in drafting technical papers or reports, or in preparing standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests.

Innovate, enhance, or customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, or analytical methods.

Recommend the procurement of laboratory supplies, such as chemicals, to sustain working inventory.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution.

Experience in Chemistry — Comprehensive knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, as well as the chemical processes and transformations they undergo, including chemical uses, interactions, hazards, production techniques, and disposal methods.

Minimum of 2 years of experience operating gas chromatography (GC) instrumentation, with a preference for experience with GC/MS instrumentation for EPA methods.

Proficient in instrument plumbing – gas lines and liquid lines.

Familiarity with fundamental laboratory hygiene processes and protocols.

Must be physically capable of working while wearing an air-purifying respirator for up to 1 hour, once per week.

Legible handwriting is essential.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and analytical or scientific software.

Key Responsibilities:

Lifting - < 35 pounds - 5%

Adherence to appropriate laboratory PPE - 100%, air-purifying respirator - 2%

Work will be conducted within specified chemical and industrial laboratory settings.

Other Key Responsibilities:

Operation of Agilent and/or Thermo Scientific Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS) systems.

Operation of Thermo Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (LC/MS) systems.

Proper handling of compressed gas cylinders, low-pressure liquid dewars, and high-pressure liquid dewars.

Must be eligible for Federal Facility Access approval as a contractor.

Engage in a variety of routine scientific activities that apply scientific principles related to the research, design, and development of laboratory and field projects.

Review and evaluate analysis data concerning the needs, requirements, and operations for test project design and support.

Prepare technical reports, procedures, and proposals, making recommendations regarding changes and revisions to the task leader.

Perform additional technical activities as necessary.
