Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Wildlife Field Technician to join our team at the State of Montana. As a key member of our Wildlife Division, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing programs that protect and conserve Montana's renewable wildlife resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate field work schedules with biologists and other coworkers to collect scientific data associated with prioritized projects.
  • Work with minimal supervision to evaluate situations and determine the best approach for data collection.
  • Enter, record, summarize, and manage survey data using standard software and existing databases.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of draft reports.
  • Provide leadership and training for coworkers and volunteers, and serve as a lead worker for day-to-day operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, fish and wildlife management, animal ecology, biology, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two years of college work or related work experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with private landowners, the public, and partner agencies.
  • Ability to learn and understand hunting and fishing regulations, public use rules, and natural resource management.
  • Physical ability to work in a variety of environments, including remote field locations, and to lift heavy objects.
Working Conditions

The Wildlife Field Technician will work in a fast-paced environment with varying schedules and travel requirements. The position may involve working with/around wildlife that may be dangerous, and exposure to potentially harmful pathogens, chemical agents, and offensive sights and sounds.
