Role SummaryThe Medical Assistant will play a vital role in delivering both administrative and clinical support within a primary care setting. This position is essential in ensuring that patients receive high-quality, compassionate care.
Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient Care:
- Prepare the care environment to ensure all necessary equipment and information are available for patient visits.
- Welcome patients and assist them in feeling comfortable during their appointments.
- Conduct vital signs assessments, including weight, height, EKGs, and other assigned tests.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient information.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain organized medical records using established filing systems.
- Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Administer rapid HIV tests, ensuring proper consent is obtained.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately.
- Assist in therapeutic procedures as necessary.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by healthcare providers.
- Collect and preserve biological specimens for testing.
- Perform basic screening tests on collected specimens.
Indirect Patient Care:
- Prepare necessary forms for patient visits.
- Coordinate referrals, including obtaining insurance authorizations and scheduling appointments.
- Manage requests for medication refills as assigned.
Laboratory Services:
- Conduct standard laboratory tests as directed by primary care providers.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring accuracy.
- Document all actions related to specimen handling in patient records.
- Track lab results and communicate findings to healthcare providers.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Regularly inventory supplies and ensure proper storage upon arrival.
- Maintain laboratory equipment according to safety and operational guidelines.
Triage Support:
- Assist healthcare providers in gathering information for patient triage.
General Responsibilities:
- Adhere to universal precautions consistently.
- Participate in relevant practice committees and initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Support the practice by completing data entry and administrative tasks as needed.
- Receive cross-training for Medical Receptionist duties, including scheduling and patient registration.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification in Pennsylvania.
- Proficient in computer applications, including word processing.
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable, responsible, and courteous demeanor.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
- COVID vaccination required.
- Current CPR Certification is mandatory.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to various environmental factors, including noise levels typical of a healthcare setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Capacity to stand, walk, and perform various physical tasks as required.
