Position Summary:

We are in search of a committed and skilled Laboratory Operations Supervisor for our IACUC-accredited zebrafish facility. This position entails managing the daily functions of the zebrafish laboratory, overseeing colony health and care, and ensuring adherence to institutional and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in managing Tecniplast zebrafish rack systems and have a solid background in water management and aquaculture systems. Additionally, this role includes supervising a small team of zebrafish care staff and collaborating with other team members to enhance laboratory operations and support research goals. The successful applicant will also actively participate in zebrafish husbandry tasks, including breeding, embryo maintenance, sample collection, and fluorescent screening. Flexibility is required to oversee zebrafish colonies across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Oversight:
    • Manage the daily operations of the zebrafish facility, ensuring compliance with IACUC regulations and maintaining high standards of care.
    • Oversee Tecniplast zebrafish rack systems, addressing troubleshooting and performing minor repairs as necessary.
    • Keep accurate records of facility conditions, equipment maintenance, and animal welfare.
    • Experience in managing grant timelines and collaborating with software teams is preferred as we develop innovative solutions for zebrafish facility management.
  • Colony Management and Zebrafish Care:
    • Supervise and train staff in zebrafish care, breeding, and husbandry practices.
    • Engage in all husbandry tasks, including breeding, embryo maintenance, sample collection, and fluorescent screening.
    • Monitor the health and welfare of zebrafish colonies, including feeding and water quality management.
    • Implement breeding protocols to sustain and expand zebrafish populations.
  • Team Management and Coordination:
    • Lead a small team of zebrafish care technicians.
    • Develop and manage schedules for daily operations and research activities in alignment with project requirements.
    • Coordinate with researchers to ensure zebrafish are prepared for experiments in accordance with project timelines.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations, including IACUC guidelines and institutional policies.
    • Maintain safety protocols to foster a secure working environment for staff and animals.
  • Maintenance Tasks:
    • Perform minor plumbing tasks related to the zebrafish rack systems and facility infrastructure.
    • Coordinate with maintenance personnel for any significant repairs.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related discipline is required.
  • Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience managing an IACUC-accredited zebrafish facility.
    • Hands-on experience with Tecniplast zebrafish rack systems, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
    • Minor plumbing experience or a willingness to learn is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to animal welfare and regulatory compliance.
    • Proficiency in Google Sheets, including basic formulas and functions.
