Work Schedule:
1st Shift: Monday to Friday (8-hour shifts)
2nd Shift: Friday to Monday (4 days/10-hour shifts)
Compensation: $21-$23 per hour

Position Summary: The Animal Quarantine Care Specialist is vital in safeguarding the health and welfare of animals within a specific area of the sanctuary. This role encompasses daily responsibilities related to the upkeep, sanitation, and management of animal facilities, alongside supporting the work of animal caretakers.

Primary Duties:
Animal Care and Management:
  • Deliver daily care for animals, including feeding, hydration, and health monitoring.
  • Ensure optimal housing conditions, including temperature regulation, habitat setup, and cleanliness.
  • Identify and report any signs of illness or distress in animals to the relevant personnel.
  • Adhere to established protocols to minimize the transmission of contagious diseases.
  • Observe and report behavioral changes in quarantined animals.
Facility Upkeep:
  • Sanitize animal enclosures, pens, and equipment following established guidelines.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness to meet regulatory standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and report any issues.
Documentation:
  • Keep precise and thorough records of daily activities, including health observations, enclosure changes, and environmental conditions.
  • Document and report any deviations from standard operating procedures.
  • Record instances of barrier aggression and other behavioral issues.
  • Log daily and weekly animal health checks.
  • Submit documentation to the supervisor on Fridays.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Follow local, state, and federal regulations concerning animal care and welfare.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all sanctuary protocols.
Teamwork and Communication:
  • Collaborate closely with staff, veterinarians, and other team members to ensure smooth facility operations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to uphold the highest standards of animal care.
Professional Development:
  • Stay updated on new techniques and advancements in animal care.
  • Engage in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or coursework in animal science or a related field is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in animal care or a similar position is preferred.
  • Physical fitness and capability to lift and carry heavy items.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Environment:
  • Exposure to animal allergens, odors, and cleaning agents.
  • May require occasional weekend or holiday shifts.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding setting.
