Job Overview:

This position involves skilled labor in the operation of various types of heavy machinery essential for the upkeep and construction of roadways and bridges.

The role includes operating equipment such as compactors, front-end loaders, farm tractors, and backhoes for tasks like road patching and culvert installation.

Responsibilities also encompass cutting and transporting brush, moving dirt, maintaining roadways, and repairing road signage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct traffic management including flagging and setting up barricades and cones.
  • Load necessary equipment and tools for off-site operations.
  • Utilize power tools such as mowers and chainsaws to manage roadside vegetation.
  • Clear litter and debris from public right-of-ways and transport refuse to designated locations.
  • Direct traffic at construction sites as required.
  • Install road signs using hand and power tools; dig holes and secure signs with cement.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Train and instruct other staff in equipment operation as time permits.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure proper functionality; clean and maintain machinery as needed.
  • Engage in flood control tasks as necessary.
  • Refuel equipment as required.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Additional Duties with Class B CDL License:

  • Operate diesel and non-diesel trucks for transporting materials such as gravel, dirt, and asphalt.
  • Handle heavy machinery utilized by the department, including heavy dump trucks and tandem trucks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Possession of a Class C Driver's License issued by the State of Texas.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License with "N" endorsement issued by the State of Texas preferred.
