Senior Vice President, Global Medical Affairs
The Senior Vice President of Global Medical Affairs will deliver strategic, operational, and medical oversight for a high-performing Medical Affairs division across international clusters.
This pivotal position is essential for steering medical strategy and ensuring execution excellence within a vital function, facilitating commercial growth objectives through evidence generation, scientific engagement, thought leadership, and talent cultivation.
Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Directs and supervises the activities of Cluster Lead Medical Directors in crafting and implementing tactics of the strategic plan for all products and therapeutic areas throughout various life-cycle phases, from launch preparation to post-marketing.
Leads international cluster teams to manage global business strategy.
Collaborates with the Evidence Generation team to design and develop post-marketing clinical trials, including engagement with community thought leaders, protocol formulation, and evaluations.
Ensures projects are completed on schedule and within budget, addressing issues as they arise.
Represents the organization’s International Medical Affairs interests with both internal and external stakeholders, guiding the International Medical Affairs Clusters in interactions with relevant regulatory bodies.
Acts as the scientific medical authority both internally and externally with national and international stakeholders.
Provides consultancy to various business units, including Sales and Marketing, Global Clinical R&D, Global R&D, Global Pharmacovigilance, and the Promotion Review Committee (PRC) regarding the medical aspects of the company's offerings.
Guarantees the efficient and effective operation of Medical Affairs. Ensures that the direction of Field Medical organizations aligns with performance objectives and global Medical Affairs practices.
Ensures that International clusters in Medical Affairs are adequately staffed to serve as internal scientific experts for all disease states and products, with personnel trained in medical, scientific, and regulatory knowledge, as well as industry research and trends.
Drives the development plan for direct reports and oversees the growth of functional departments.
Supports internal training and development initiatives for sales trainers and sales and marketing personnel in preparing educational materials on relevant topics at an appropriate scientific level, consistent with the needs of international clusters and global medical affairs.
Leads the international medical affairs clusters in the final review and approval of scientific communications regarding company products and therapeutic areas.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
- MD with over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotherapeutics industry.
- Experience in medical affairs/clinical settings, preferably in a specialty relevant to the therapeutic areas/products of the organization.
- Over 8 years of Executive Medical Affairs Leadership experience.
- Proven experience in building and leading cross-functional teams within a global matrix organization.
- Strong capabilities in clinical research, evidence generation, and scientific engagement.
- Influential leader adept at building relationships across various stakeholder types.
- Possesses executive presence with the ability to communicate complex data effectively and relate study results and therapeutic area knowledge to industry-specific applications.
- Comprehensive working knowledge across multiple therapeutic areas and products.
