UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team in the Women Care Birth Center. Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for surgery by ensuring aseptic incision sites, transporting patients to the operating room, and positioning them on the operating table.
  • Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves, and scrub in for scheduled and unscheduled obstetrical surgical cases.
  • Collaborate with the Nursing team and Obstetrical providers to ensure a safe and efficient operating room environment.
  • Support cost containment in the use of materials and equipment, and ensure all medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon according to established policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis, and assist in the application of dressings.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment, and ensure all equipment and instruments are properly sterilized and stored.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • 3 years of current Operating Room experience required for Sr. level, open to new grads Starting rate for new grads is $20.58/hour.
  • Advanced knowledge of at least 2 surgical specialists with 1 year experience in selected specialty desired.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
