This position is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support services in the Emergency Department. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and understand normal ranges and changes.
- Inform RNs or physicians of changes in vital signs.
- Collect blood, urine, saliva, and stool samples for laboratory analysis.
- Insert Foley catheters, perform straight catheters, and provide wound care.
- Fits patients for casts and/or hard splints, crutches, and other devices.
- Perform 12-lead EKGs.
- Provide instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures on patients.
- Assist with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.
- Assist with admitting patients into the ER, scheduling patient transfers, and reinforcing patient education/discharge instructions as given by the RN.
- Apply, check, and document restraints as directed by the RN or physician.
- Perform the duties of unit secretary.
- Maintain patient charts, respond to phone calls, maintain daily assignment boards, provide equipment care/cleaning, and perform errands associated with patient care.
- Provide accurate information about the patient to the interdisciplinary team.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of Basic EMT training program or Paramedic Training is required in the state of practice.
- Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in the state of practice is required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- Current IV Certification in the state of practice is required.
- One (1) year of related experience.
This position requires regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts.
