Position Overview

The Prepared Foods Team Leader plays a pivotal role in guiding the prepared foods department. This position encompasses comprehensive oversight of daily operations, ensuring profitability, managing expenses, overseeing procurement, and maintaining merchandising standards. The leader is also responsible for regulatory compliance and executing special projects as designated.

This role involves accountability for the recruitment, development, and performance management of team members. Upholding a positive company image through courteous and efficient service to both customers and team members is essential. All responsibilities must align with established team and store standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that team members, including ATLs and supervisors, are held accountable for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment characterized by teamwork, respect, and high morale.
  • Make informed decisions regarding hiring and separations.
  • Monitor and achieve targets related to sales, purchasing, and labor.
  • Maintain optimal product assortment, merchandising, and inventory management.
  • Develop and sustain productive relationships with department leaders and vendors.
  • Stay informed about competitors and industry trends to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Set and uphold the highest standards of retail execution.
  • Direct team members to meet customer needs promptly and effectively.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor team members to cultivate a high-performance team.
  • Conduct thorough and timely performance evaluations.
  • Consistently communicate and embody the vision and goals of Whole Foods Market.
Required Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of industry trends and competitor activities.
  • Advanced understanding of product management, pricing strategies, and inventory control.
  • Food safety certification is required; commitment to obtain certification within six months if not currently certified.
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, and team-building skills.
  • Aptitude for teaching and guiding others constructively.
  • Proficient in mathematical skills for financial performance assessment and inventory management.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with effective decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operations-related software.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 24 months of retail experience, including at least 12 months in a leadership capacity.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to stand or walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday.
  • Proficient in hand use, including grasping, fine manipulation, and pushing/pulling.
  • Comfortable with bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals approved by the FDA.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Flexibility to work in both wet and dry conditions.
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Proficient in using tools and equipment, including knives and electric pallet jacks.
  • May require the use of ladders.
