This role at CDM Smith involves working as an Automation Specialist 5 focused on Medium Voltage systems. The position offers flexibility with options for hybrid or fully remote work arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee the development of intricate instrumentation and control systems utilizing advanced 3D and 4D design methodologies.
- Generate technical documentation addressing design challenges for clients.
- Prepare preliminary design reports with minimal oversight.
- Collaborate with clients to ensure design accuracy and alignment.
- Develop complex human-machine interface (HMI) designs and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
- Estimate levels of effort for projects and assist in the testing and commissioning of systems independently.
- Contribute to the creation of training materials for end users and review complex shop drawings and contractor clarifications.
- Conduct testing and field inspections, ensuring thorough documentation of startup processes.
- Mentor junior staff and review their work as necessary.
Professional Development:
Engage actively in the Automation Community of Practice, specializing in areas such as communications, networking, or security, with the aim of becoming a subject matter expert.
Proposal and Marketing Support:
Assist in preparing proposal sections and presentations, including scope and budget estimates, while supporting marketing initiatives related to automation strategies.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed, depending on project demands.
Preferred Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of instrumentation and control systems design.
- Proficiency in PLC and HMI technologies.
- Strong communication skills and client relationship management capabilities.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and advanced design practices.
