Product Development Engineer

CW Design is a leading company specializing in the design, construction, and management of innovative zip line, aerial adventure parks, and amusement rides. We are seeking a skilled Product Development Engineer with experience in full life cycle product development, including FEA, DFM, Six Sigma, FOS Engineering, advanced strength and material analysis, and ISO/ASTM Quality Control standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Think creatively and analytically to efficiently and effectively lead project teams through iterative design and testing to arrive at sound and profitable products.
  • Serve as a vital member of the R&D team, contributing to engineering and product design.
  • Act as a designer, design teacher, safety engineer, and QA gatekeeper, ensuring assemblies are built to specification and meet product or testing requirements.
  • Support product development through detailed drawings, digital communication, and direct interaction with vendors and internal staff.
  • Set up and conduct tests to evaluate material strength, durability, and capacity.
  • Generate preliminary calculations for material loads and collaborate with the endorsing engineers where applicable to meet standards.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies, products, and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control standards and implement new QA protocols as needed.

Ideal Skills and Abilities:
  • Apply engineering principles to create unique structural designs.
  • Optimize product design for ergonomics, aesthetics, production, reliability, and cost.
  • Produce technical documentation, including test plans, verification reports, manufacturing guidelines, and user manuals.
  • Liaise with vendors and internal teams to ensure design accuracy and manufacturing precision.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in project and product development.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely progress and completion.
  • Proficient in Solidworks (Simulation, Stress and Strain Analysis, Photoview 360) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a hands-on approach to development and testing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in SketchUp and Mastercam (4-axis mill/lathe).
  • Understanding of CNC controls and G code for machine operations.
  • Familiarity with ASTM F24 Amusement Guidelines and ISO/ASTM/CE QA standards.
  • Knowledge of microeconomic principles and accounting.
  • Advanced fabrication skills, including welding and machining. CAM experience.
  • Project Management certified.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with GD&T and design for manufacturability.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Hybrid work schedule (performance depending). Generally starting with at least 4 days in office and never less than 3. Office is located in Hendersonville, TN.
