About the Position

VHB is seeking a highly skilled Structural Practice Lead - Vertical Structures to join our team in Washington, DC. As a key member of our structural practice, you will lead the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of new structures, with a focus on transportation-related structures for state agencies and transportation authorities.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation-related building structures.
  • Review plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope and ensure compliance with accepted engineering standards and procedures.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and support staff, providing technical oversight and review of their work.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with leading external disciplines, including architecture and MEP consultant partners.
  • Lead quality management and monitoring of project budgets and schedules, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Generate new business development opportunities and prepare winning proposals, leveraging your expertise and industry relationships.
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to establish project milestones and quarterly business goals, driving growth and success.
  • Participate in key personnel decisions, contributing to the development of our team and the success of our clients.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, with a Master's degree preferred.
  • 11-15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in structural analysis and design, with 15+ years preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience working on structures for state agencies and transportation authorities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
  • Proficiency in structural and CADD engineering software, including STAAD, LARSA, MathCAD, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Demonstrated success in completing structural designs and developing contract plans in conformance with accepted engineering standards and procedures.
  • Past business development success and industry relationships.
  • Ability to travel as needed to client sites.
