About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our surgical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and other perioperative team members in the care of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain a safe and sterile environment for surgical procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and other necessary preparations for surgery.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons during procedures.
  • Assist with closure of wounds and application of dressings.
  • Participate in the cleaning and disinfection of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless communication and coordination during surgical procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a surgical technology accredited surgical assisting program.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Two years of progressive clinical scrub experience in a CST role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recommendation from three different multi-specialty surgeons to validate skill competency.
Working Environment

The successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with exposure to communicable diseases, toxic gases, and other hazards associated with surgical procedures.

  • Ability to perform concentrated and complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and highly technical situations.
  • Ability to work successfully under stressful conditions and adapt to varying workloads and work assignments.
  • Ability to make sound judgments based on scientific principles and collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members.
