Job Overview


We are seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to become an integral part of our specialized medical team. This position is categorized as PRN, non-exempt, and eligible for benefits. The compensation for this role is set at $37.00 per hour, with variations based on experience and departmental equity.


Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will assist surgeons during surgical and invasive procedures, ensuring that the surgical environment is adequately prepared.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Maintaining a sterile field, providing necessary equipment and supplies, and conducting counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments to ensure safety.
  • Independently managing case preparations by utilizing preference sheets and special equipment lists, reviewing and updating these lists as necessary, and ensuring readiness prior to the patient's arrival in the operating room.

Equipment Management:

  • Verifying the effectiveness of surgical equipment, documenting operations, sterilization processes, and usage.
  • Attending in-service training on new equipment and successfully completing competency evaluations for the operation and maintenance of departmental tools.


Possessing comprehensive knowledge of sterile techniques, anatomy, and surgical procedures is essential, particularly in relation to our specific practices. Familiarity with hospital policies, especially those pertaining to the operating room, is also required. Additionally, understanding the principles of decontamination, sterilization processes, and the operation of autoclaves and washer decontamination systems is crucial.


Language Proficiency:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos, as well as the capability to write basic correspondence.

Effectively presenting information in both one-on-one and small group settings is expected, alongside the ability to multitask and maintain a constructive approach when interacting with families, patients, colleagues, and physicians, while promoting a safe environment.


Reasoning Skills:
Ability to apply common sense to execute detailed written or oral instructions and address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification recognized by the American Heart Association is required.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in an orthopedic surgical setting is preferred.
