Job Summary:

Bernards is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Engineer to join our team.

The ideal candidate will assist the team in the administration of construction projects and act as a resource for the Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, and Superintendent in running day-to-day project operations from preconstruction through closeout.

This includes assisting in preconstruction phase activities such as constructability reviews, value engineering, estimating, budget control, prime contract negotiation, and preconstruction schedule management.

In addition, the Senior Project Engineer will assist in construction phase activities such as project setup, risk management, document management, subcontractor buyout, schedule management, QA/QC management, change management, submittal and RFI management, financial reporting, and project closeout.

Key Responsibilities:

  • PRECONSTRUCTION: Assist in estimating and budgeting processes, prepare preliminary schedules, and evaluate subcontractor proposals.
  • CONTRACT DOCUMENTS: Clearly understand all contract documents and ensure their prompt transmission to new subcontractors.
  • INFORMATION ORGANIZATION: Ensure all documents are readily accessible and neatly organized.
  • BIM/COORDINATION DRAWINGS: Assist with reviewing mechanical and electrical systems for compatibility and space constraints.
  • DIRECTORY/FILES/REPORTS: Ensure project documents, files, and reports are current, filed, and distributed according to policy.
  • AS-BUILT DRAWINGS: Assemble clean sets of contract documents for recording as-built information.
  • DOCUMENT CONTROL: Ensure document control procedures are followed and a working set of drawings and specifications is established at the jobsite.
  • SCHEDULING: Assist in updating project schedules collaboratively with the Superintendent(s) and Project Manager(s).
  • SUBMITTALS: Ensure submittals are received, approved, and returned in a timely manner.
  • PROCUREMENT LOG: Develop and maintain a procurement log.
  • REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION: Ensure RFIs are written for all questions on the project and properly tracked through the log system.
  • CLOSEOUT: Assist in completing closeout packages as directed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Architectural Engineering preferred.
  • Over 3 years of construction industry experience managing projects within our market segments and of our typical project sizes from start-up to completion.
