Position Overview
The Respiratory Care Practitioner III plays a vital role in delivering respiratory care through comprehensive patient assessment, strategic planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This position encompasses all respiratory care procedures within the licensed scope. The practitioner monitors patient responses to therapies and recommends modifications based on thorough assessments. Additionally, this role provides clinical leadership and supports quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentors clinical staff through educational rounds and evaluations, fostering professional growth in respiratory practices across intensive care, general care, and outpatient settings. Offers constructive feedback for performance evaluations and may provide training to team members and students.
- Identifies and leads quality improvement initiatives, designing programs with measurable outcomes. Engages in clinical research projects, ensuring proper education, training, and adherence to study protocols, while maintaining accurate data collection and documentation.
- Actively participates in facility councils and committees to contribute to organizational goals.
- May assume the role of the shift "Charge Therapist," responsible for ensuring adequate staffing levels and managing assignments to meet patient care needs.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to conduct comprehensive patient assessments, formulates care plans, implements treatments, and evaluates their effectiveness.
- Administers treatments and therapies as per physician directives, providing clear explanations of therapeutic goals to patients and adjusting procedures based on their responses.
- Maintains thorough documentation and patient records, adhering to established policies, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
- Educates patients and caregivers on cardiopulmonary conditions and treatment options, including the use of various respiratory devices.
- Sets up and maintains respiratory therapy equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness for patient care.
- Responds to cardiopulmonary emergencies and participates actively as needed.

Licensing and Certification Requirements
Current Respiratory Care License in the relevant state (mandatory)
National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialing (mandatory)
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred)
BLS Basic Life Support certification (mandatory)
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (mandatory)
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (mandatory)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (preferred)
Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred)
Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred)
ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) certification (preferred)
Valid driver's license (required for Home Care/DME)
Educational Background
Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Care program (mandatory)
Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Master's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Experience
A minimum of two years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional (mandatory)
Competency in at least two of the following environments: Nursery/NICU, PICU, ICU/CCU, ED, and general care areas (mandatory)
