The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a committed professional to serve as a Meat and Poultry Inspector within the Office of Meat and Poultry Services (OMPS). In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of meat and poultry processing and slaughter facilities within the designated regions.
- Perform thorough ante-mortem and post-mortem evaluations
- Assess and verify food safety management systems
- Uphold the Humane Handling Act
- Gather official samples for testing
- Document findings in inspection reports
Minimum Qualifications:
Training will be provided, so prior experience in meat and poultry operations is not a prerequisite. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, possess excellent communication skills, and be proficient with computer systems. A valid driver's license and the capacity to meet physical requirements are necessary. A high school diploma or GED is required.
Additional Considerations:
A combination of education, training, and relevant experience is preferred. Knowledge of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and previous experience in agriculture or regulatory enforcement is advantageous.
