We are seeking a skilled HPC/Linux Systems Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expertise in designing and operating Linux-based infrastructure for high-performance compute environments and labs.

The role involves supporting digital infrastructure, third-party software tools and applications, as well as overseeing new system technologies. Key responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Deep knowledge of Open Source technology platform stack, including Linux, virtual machines, networking, data storage and backups, and high-performance computing stack.
  • Developing processes for design, maintenance, continuity of operations, and secure operation of systems, in compliance with US government and DoD standards.
  • Collaborating with leaders and stakeholders to analyze business needs and define architectural strategy.
  • Providing functional knowledge of systems and managing end user relationships with system and technical teams.
  • Conducting research on emerging technologies and recommending new technology solutions.

Required experience includes enterprise level architecture design and implementation of high-performance computing systems, as well as exposure to or experience building and operating within a DoD environment. Preferred experience includes automation of administrative tasks, containerization technologies, and compliance with cybersecurity policies and regulations.

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
