Key Responsibilities
Engagement with Children
- Interact regularly, warmly, and respectfully with children through smiles, gentle touches, and supportive gestures. Communicate in a friendly, calm, and courteous manner while being close to the child.
- Observe and respect children's interests, intervening as necessary to maintain safety. Enrich children's play with language, toys, and activities.
- Engage directly with each child at their level.
- Communicate constructively with individual children during activities and routines, seizing every opportunity to extend their thinking and actions positively.
- Be available and responsive to children's needs, inquiries, and requests.
- Encourage and model age-appropriate social behavior and expectations.
- Recognize feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate emotional expression.
- Utilize positive discipline techniques in guiding children's behavior according to Bright Horizons' Positive Discipline Guidelines.
- Support children and their families during transitions to and from classrooms with attentiveness and flexibility.
- Implement a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, reflecting observations and assessments of individual children, along with goals collaboratively established with parents/guardians.
- Create an environment that caters to children's individual developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, and current interests by consulting relevant Bright Horizons resources.
- Provide a variety of suitable materials and activities that promote social skills and encourage children to think critically, solve problems, ask questions, and experiment.
- Encourage a positive self-image by supporting individuality, independence, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrate respect for diversity by using anti-bias, non-sexist language, images, and experiences that reflect both local and global communities.
- Organize a daily schedule that balances various activities: quiet/active, indoor/outdoor, fine/gross motor, etc.
- Plan and execute child-centered, self-initiated activities while minimizing large group, staff-led activities.
- Offer multiple options for group activities and maintain flexibility in adapting planned activities based on children's interests.
- Document children's achievements through anecdotal notes, documentation panels, and/or portfolios.
- Greet parents/guardians and all classroom visitors with a friendly, professional demeanor.
- Address parent/guardian comments and concerns with sensitivity, interest, and respect while maintaining confidentiality.
- Establish and uphold a primary caregiving relationship with individual children and their families, including initial meetings during orientation.
- Encourage input from parents/guardians regarding their child's development and care.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with parents/guardians daily about the development and specific activities of their children.
- Facilitate regular parent/guardian conferences to discuss orientation, transitions, and developmental goals based on appropriate assessment tools.
- Assist in planning and participating in location/classroom events and meetings.
- Share resources with parents/guardians through discussions, articles, newsletters, and community contacts.
- Adhere to all safety and health regulations of the location.
- Supervise children at all times, demonstrating awareness of the entire group.
- Maintain accurate attendance records throughout the day.
- Complete necessary paperwork related to accidents, medication, and allergies.
- Encourage children to practice appropriate health, safety, and nutritional habits.
- Keep the environment and equipment safe, clean, and appealing, fostering respect for classroom materials.
- Organize space into clearly defined, well-structured activity areas.
- Provide a variety of materials on low, open shelves for independent use by children.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding issues involving staff members, children, and families.
- Demonstrate understanding of developmental stages and the general areas of physical, social, cognitive, and emotional growth for this age group.
- Support the organizational mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies to parents/guardians, coworkers, and the community.
- Ensure continuity of care for children by reporting to work punctually and maintaining consistent attendance.
- Demonstrate flexibility and openness to new ideas in childcare practices.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other location events.
- Engage in professional development by attending courses, seeking feedback, and reading relevant literature.
- Receive constructive criticism positively and provide respectful feedback.

- Ensure children's safety while performing job functions, including lifting, moving, or holding children.
- Engage with children outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Maintain mental and physical alertness to fulfill essential job requirements.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education is required.
Enrollment in a Master's Degree program in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
Experience
- Must meet state experience requirements for Teacher; 12 months of professional teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum practices.
