Position Overview

The Press Operator is responsible for setting up and managing all shop presses in a manufacturing environment. This role requires a thorough understanding of press operations and safety protocols to ensure efficient production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and operate presses utilizing closed forging dies.
  • Comprehend the functionality of all presses and associated equipment.
  • Adhere to safety standards and operational guidelines.
  • Manage induction furnace operations and setup.
  • Operate gas and electric furnaces, including slot and rotary types.
  • Follow ISO procedures diligently.
  • Meet and maintain production targets.
  • Ensure proper alignment of dies and make necessary machine adjustments.
  • Monitor the quality of forgings, identifying any defects or issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas at the end of shifts.
  • Conduct daily operations with a focus on safety, reporting any hazards to supervisors.
  • Assist in the training of new team members.
  • Report any tooling malfunctions or production issues to supervisors.
  • Control the operation of the forging furnace and heating equipment.
  • Perform necessary re-strikes and use calipers effectively.
  • Understand basic metal flow and die design principles.
  • Recognize the unique characteristics of various metals.
  • Possess knowledge of preventative maintenance for presses.
  • Ensure proper visual checks and edge bars as required.
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures and scale control.
  • Complete all necessary documentation accurately.
  • Utilize tongs properly and maintain a good attendance record.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma or GED is required, along with prior experience in press operations.
Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret operating instructions, safety regulations, and procedural manuals.
Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand and use hands for handling materials.
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms is necessary.
  • Occasional walking may be required.
Work Environment

  • Employees may be exposed to vibrations and moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles is possible.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically very loud.
This position requires compliance with national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations. Candidates must qualify as a U.S. Person as defined by these regulations.
