Job Summary

To prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring surgical equipment and instruments are properly functioning during surgical procedures. Provide basic surgical assistance, ensuring patient comfort and providing quality patient care. Ensure surgical equipment and instruments are sterilized in accordance with UMMC infection control and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with UMMC and regulatory standards.
  • Provide basic surgical support, including room setup, sterile field management, handling of specimens and instruments, and room turnover.
  • Assess equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensure availability.
  • Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Follow infection control policies, AORN recommendations, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Knowledge of surgical techniques and equipment, UMMC infection control and regulatory sterilization standards, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment

This job requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments, including high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold. It also requires constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment and frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions.

Benefits

This is a full-time position with benefits eligibility. The work shift is rotating, and the job is not grant-funded.
