Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Coastal Scientist, Planner, or Engineer to join our team at Herrera Environmental Consultants. As a key member of our coastal restoration team, you will be responsible for providing support for a range of coastal and climate projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. About the Role In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including sea level rise assessment and management, bluff sediment supply, debris removal and other efforts to naturalize beaches, beach restoration feasibility assessments, GIS/geospatial analysis, hydrodynamic and wave modeling, alternatives to erosion control (shoreline armor), and nearshore habitat assessments. Responsibilities * Provide field work support and collect data on nearshore characteristics relevant to restoration design using standard analytical methods applied in coastal environments * Interpret coastal change data * Describe climate-related hazards and corresponding impacts to infrastructure * Collaborate and support restoration feasibility assessments, data synthesis, and report writing * Develop, apply, and evaluate models to aid in understanding baseline and future conditions in wave and tidally dominated coastal environments * Assist with coastal restoration project design plans Requirements * 0+ years of professional experience * Bachelor's degree in environmental science/ecology, geology, civil, coastal, or ocean engineering, or oceanography; or a master's degree in environmental science/ecology, geology, planning, civil, coastal, or ocean engineering, or oceanography, if undergraduate degree was not in civil engineering * Knowledge of Pacific Northwest nearshore environments, geomorphic processes, and wave dynamics * Proficiency with GIS * Ability to multi-task daily and work with a fast-paced team of interdisciplinary staff working on several concurrent projects * Ability to lift and carry loads up to 30 lbs. and walk on uneven surfaces and through waterways when conducting field work * A current valid driver's license What We Offer * This position is salaried and exempt from overtime; the annual salary ranges are: Planner I: $63,324 - $85,160, Scientist I: $64,143 - $85,979, Engineer I: $73,424 - $95,260 * Flexible hybrid work culture * Medical/prescription drug/dental/vision insurance for employees and dependents; employees covered at no cost on base plan with buy-up options available; company contribution for dependents * Section 125 flexible benefits plans - healthcare and dependent care * Company-paid life insurance for employees; option to purchase additional life insurance for employees and dependents at employees' expense * Company-paid long term disability insurance for employees; option to purchase short-term disability insurance at employees' expense * Employee Assistance Program (EAP) * Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) - we are 100% employee-owned * 401(k) retirement plan * Paid vacation, accrued bi-weekly, equivalent to 10 days per year for a 40-hour/week employee and prorated for employees working 24-39 hours/week * Paid sick leave, accrued bi-weekly, equivalent to 10 days per year for a 40-hour/week employee and prorated for employees working 24-39 hours/week * Flexible paid holidays (10) * Paid volunteer time (8 hours annually) * Company-paid annual membership dues for one professional organization * Professional development/continuing education allowance * Discretionary annual bonus * Transit benefit How to Apply If you are a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about coastal restoration and environmental consulting, please submit your application, including your resume and a cover letter, to [insert contact information].
