Job Summary:

To provide exceptional patient care and high-quality diagnostic imaging services in a professional and efficient manner, utilizing advanced technology and techniques to produce accurate and detailed images of the body's internal structures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures to obtain high-quality images of the body's internal structures.
  • Corroborate patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring accurate documentation and availability for use by licensed practitioners.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing clear instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Select and operate MRI equipment and accessories, determining optimal scanning parameters.
  • Position patients to best demonstrate anatomic areas of interest, respecting patient comfort and ability.
  • Verify documentation and assist licensed physicians with procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for patient physical and psychological needs during procedures.
  • Understand methods and perform venipunctures as necessary.
  • Prepare, operate, and care for equipment and instruments used for contrast agent administration, patient monitoring, and safety.
  • Administer contrast media as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, manipulate display parameters, and provide hard copy records with proper identification.
  • Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
  • Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient education by describing tests and procedures to patients, family members, or other responsible parties.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunctions, including appearance and cleanliness of the area and restocking of supplies.
  • Provide input for supply decisions.
  • Offer practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan, with specific quality control duties in the specialty area.
  • Comply with minimum standards as noted on the job description cover page.
  • Maintain knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques used for procedures in the MRI area.
  • Maintain appropriate knowledge to recognize anatomical structures via computer-generated systems.
  • Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped, considering patient age and diagnosis.
  • Record patient histories, indications, and other pertinent information in the Notes section of Synapse.
  • Create and/or release imaging viewing media to other institutions, patients, or nursing units upon properly authorized request.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an approved School of Radiographic Technology.
  • Computer experience.
  • Experience as a radiographer, demonstrating a knowledge base to successfully complete MRI procedures and maintain additional education in cross-sectional anatomy.
Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:
  • Staff technologist perform radiography on a Comprehensive Practice Level.
  • Individuals must demonstrate competency to meet state licensure and certification requirements defined by law for whole-body radiography and maintain the credential R.T. (R) ARRT, or equivalent.
  • Be certified by the State of Indiana.
  • Be an R.T. (R) ARRT in good standing.
  • Be ARRT certified as R.T. (MR) at hire or within 2 years of date of hire as an MRI Technologist.
