POSITION OVERVIEW

The Meat Procurement Specialist is accountable for the acquisition, meticulous inventory management, and systematic rotation of all fresh meat and related products available for our member retailers. The role emphasizes enhancing sales of these products while ensuring purchases are made at the most competitive prices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will possess the capability to execute the following essential functions:

  1. Facilitate orders via telephone or directly with vendor representatives.
  2. Engage with members through phone communications to take orders, provide current pricing, and negotiate bulk purchases.
  3. Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to schedule meat deliveries, ensuring optimal quantities and freshness.
  4. Negotiate pricing to secure the best possible deals while staying informed on market trends and conditions.
  5. Address and resolve any issues related to meat suppliers for member stores.
  6. Review daily meat receipts, accounts payable documentation, and supplier invoices for accuracy.
  7. Maintain accurate records on all assigned products within the inventory management system.
  8. Conduct regular inspections of coolers to assess product quality and ensure proper rotation.
  9. Analyze special promotions, A-Maps, and pre-booked items.
  10. Utilize computer systems to generate purchase orders and maintain accurate records for all assigned products.
  11. Apply basic mathematical skills to determine required quantities and evaluate pricing changes.
  12. Make informed purchasing decisions on a daily basis.
  13. Exhibit strong communication skills when interacting with members and suppliers.
  14. Operate standard office equipment, including calculators, copiers, and fax machines.
  15. Demonstrate the ability to comprehend and retain essential product and market information.
  16. Collaborate effectively as part of the AWG team to fulfill overall job responsibilities, emphasizing cooperation, integrity, and respect.
  17. This role demands proficient communication and computer skills, with a readiness to adopt new technologies. Management will be kept updated on planning, analysis, and results, with all required records submitted accurately and punctually.
QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience in retail grocery or wholesale environments is preferred.
  • A degree is not mandatory, but relevant work experience in grocery retail or wholesale is advantageous; a minimum of years in management is also preferred.
  • Strong language skills to interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations, including discounts, commissions, and basic algebra.
  • Problem-solving skills to navigate various situations with limited standardization.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The characteristics of the work environment include:

  • Adequate heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation.
  • Moderate noise levels, with occasional exposure to extreme cold in storage areas.
  • The role may require lifting and moving items of varying weights.
