Role Summary

The Technical Product Manager serves as a key authority in overseeing the Operations Analytics product suite, including systems and methodologies.

This role, as an individual contributor, requires significant judgment to facilitate collaboration among Business Intelligence leaders, analysts, developers, and partner teams, focusing on enhancing efficiencies through technological advancements.

The position is tasked with establishing standards and best practices for deploying our analytical tools at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

Key Responsibilities


As an expert in technical product delivery, process enhancement, and business intelligence, this role orchestrates multiple large-scale projects aimed at delivering essential analytical tools and support for Alaska's Operations and HR divisions.

Facilitates planning sessions, develops a business impact scoring system for prioritization, and collaborates with Business Intelligence, Data Science, and ITS leadership to identify key commitments.

Monitors and communicates progress towards objectives while addressing any obstacles to success.
Identifies and comprehends customer requirements, ensuring they are accurately translated into actionable specifications. Guarantees that implementation strategies align with expectations.
Acts as the expert on Operations Analytics data products, their applications, technical lineage, and business implications. Advocates for our products through various community platforms and internal events. Maintains our data catalog, ensuring customer-facing resources accurately reflect our offerings and provide self-service documentation.
Oversees data governance and the lifecycle of Operations Analytics data products. Establishes success criteria for testing and product acceptance. Facilitates the creation and upkeep of comprehensive product documentation. Identifies opportunities to eliminate redundancies and support a unified "source of truth" for key metrics and data products.

Assists Business Intelligence leadership in streamlining the intake, development, delivery, and ongoing management of data products and business relationships.

Manages internal Azure DevOps, GitHub, and other collaborative platforms for effective development oversight.
Develops standards and best practices for top-tier deployments of our analytical tools. Stays informed about technical trends and their implications for our roadmap.

Plays a pivotal role in our change management strategy, articulating a vision to advance the analytic platforms through new products, upgrades, and features.

Enhances our processes through automation to optimize tasks and minimize errors. Identifies gaps and challenges in data, systems, processes, and skills, collaborating with leadership to implement effective solutions.
With minimal oversight, monitors issues and drives resolution. Addresses program-level impediments and communicates unresolved issues with recommended corrective actions. Manages risks and develops responses to mitigate them. Plans for contingencies by establishing appropriate connections between risk, scope, schedule, and resources.
Tracks server loads and cloud computing expenses to gather performance and usage metrics. Identifies opportunities for productivity, efficiency, or financial enhancements.

Builds strong partnerships with development, engineering, infrastructure, network teams, and business partners, managing collaborative planning, project escalations, and customer concerns.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

7 years of experience in data analytics, technical product/project/program management, or a related field.

Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, business, engineering, computer science, information technology, Technical Product Management, or a closely related discipline, or an additional 2 years of experience/training in lieu of a degree.

Comprehensive knowledge of business intelligence functions, including analytics, reporting, data cleansing, data quality, and relational databases.
Familiarity with product management principles, practices, and tools.
Understanding of business requirements as articulated by epics, features, user stories, and releases. Ability to collaborate closely with business partners to develop and execute impactful roadmaps.

In-depth knowledge of database principles and experience in querying data from multiple sources using SQL, Python, Spark, or other advanced querying/database techniques.

Familiarity with visualization techniques, dashboard design, and decision support tools (such as Tableau, management systems). Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with diverse team members.

Demonstrated ability to maintain composure under pressure and navigate ambiguity.
A data-driven mindset with a proven track record of continuous self-improvement.
Exhibit a high level of accountability and ownership in driving projects to successful outcomes.
Experience in coaching and mentoring BI analysts.
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred

Master's degree.

2+ years of experience in the airline/transportation/logistics sector.

Experience with Azure tools (primarily Databricks, Data Factory, and Synapse).

Familiarity with Tableau, Alteryx, and SSMS or similar tools.

Knowledge of distributed computing systems and cloud architecture.

Experience with data transformation in cloud-based analytics environments.

Experience working in data lake and unstructured data environments.

Salary Range

$136,100 - $204,100 / year

Salary Details

Compensation will be based on various factors, including location, relevant experience/level, and skillset while ensuring internal equity among Alaska/Horizon employees.
