Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Coordinator to join our dynamic team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. As a Patient Care Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth delivery of patient care services. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate patient appointments, communicate with patients and families, and work closely with healthcare providers to ensure seamless care transitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to identify needs, answer questions, and resolve problems.
  • Update patient and caregiver contact information in the electronic health record (EHR) as needed.
  • Communicate with providers, technologists, and nurses regarding patient scheduling needs, treatment schedules, and additional requests.
  • Manage and prioritize scheduling requests, recognizing emergency situations and initiating correct code procedures as needed.
  • Support the overall function of the department, taking on additional duties as required, such as cross-coverage and special projects.
  • Assist with the training of new staff and update/block provider templates for just-in-time needs.
  • Triage calls from referring physicians, patients, family members, and others wishing to access care at Fred Hutch.
  • Collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information into registration databases.
  • Assist with the financial clearance process as necessary.
  • Coordinate Commercial Cell Therapy Portal Access (IMTX).
  • Distribute work to the Program Assistant and/or Patient Care Coordinator Assistant as appropriate.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently, organize, and prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficient in the use of word processing (MS Word), email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and meet patient needs.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented, and complex healthcare environment.
  • Ability to review work to identify and eliminate errors and omissions.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Coping skills.
  • Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately.
  • Attention to detail to ensure scheduling accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a patient care setting.
  • Experience with Epic or other scheduling and registration software.
