Position Overview
The Cardiac Catheterization Specialist I plays a crucial role in supporting the physician during both diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, as well as various structural heart interventions. This position is responsible for the direct care of patients throughout the procedure and the management of hemostasis following the intervention. The specialist must meet the qualifications necessary to provide care for patients across different age groups within the designated laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the physician in performing cardiac catheterizations for both adult and pediatric patients, including but not limited to procedures such as myocardial biopsy, coronary angioplasty, stenting, and temporary pacemaker insertion.
- Maintain sterile techniques in preparation for procedures, which includes scrubbing, donning surgical attire, and setting up the instrument table.
- Execute emergency therapeutic actions during procedures as required.
- Initiate life support measures in cases of cardiac or respiratory emergencies, including CPR and defibrillation.
- Support ongoing clinical research initiatives relevant to the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- Document, monitor, and evaluate hemodynamic data collected during catheterizations.
- Oversee primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedures.
- Operate and ensure quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, fluoroscopy, and other related equipment.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of all equipment utilized within the catheterization laboratory.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new staff, including students and fellows.
- Prepare arterial lines as necessary.
- Ensure accurate billing for services rendered and equipment utilized in relation to cardiac catheterization.
- Collect and analyze arterial and venous blood samples, including laboratory specimens and blood gases.
- Participate in educational programs mandated by regulatory bodies.
Work Environment
This role is typically performed in a clinical setting. The specialist is accountable for fulfilling all job-specific responsibilities and adhering to organizational policies and procedures. Position Highlights
- Rotating start times: 7:00 a.m., 7:30 a.m., or 8:00 a.m.
- On-call responsibilities: 1-2 days per week and every third weekend.

Qualifications
Education: Graduate from a Specialty Training Program is required; an Associate's Degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
Experience: Relevant experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
Certifications: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) within two years; Basic Life Support Certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within six months; Certified Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certification.
