Job Summary:

The Streets Response Team Field Supervisor is a critical role within the Salt Lake City Public Services Department. This position oversees the Streets Response Team, ensuring prompt and effective responses to emergency and routine situations within the city's jurisdiction. The supervisor is responsible for supervising and assigning tasks to team members, providing training and support, and resolving service requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead the Streets Response Team, ensuring timely and effective responses to emergency and routine situations.
  • Assign tasks and schedules to team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Provide training and orientation to new team members, ensuring they are equipped to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • Resolve service requests by taking appropriate action or referring requests to other agencies for resolution.
  • Communicate with other city departments and divisions to ensure seamless coordination and response to emergencies.
  • Operate various types of city-owned equipment, including heavy trucks and snowplows, to respond to emergencies and maintain city streets.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to perform maintenance and repairs on city streets and infrastructure.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate quantities of inventory, including tools and equipment, to ensure the team's readiness to respond to emergencies.
  • Perform daily supervision at work sites, ensuring team members are working safely and efficiently.
  • Keep records and logs of significant calls and incidents during work shifts, performing detailed accident investigations as needed.
  • Prepare complex reports and enter pertinent information into the city's request for service system.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma plus four to six years of progressively more responsible paid work experience, including heavy equipment operation or general construction maintenance.
  • Ability to deal with customers in adverse or emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers, including programs used in the creation of detailed reports and activity logs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards, practices, materials, and methods used by the city and state departments, as well as applicable city and state codes and ordinances.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to a wide range of public officials, private contractors, health officials, city employees, and the general public.
  • Possession of a valid Class A Utah Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience acting in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Prior work experience maintaining public right of way and snow removal activities for a public works or municipal program.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate to heavy physical effort, with intermittent standing and uncomfortable working conditions due to dirty equipment, fumes, adverse climactic conditions, noise, heat, dust, and grease.
  • Constant exposure to traffic and other hazards associated with driving, operating equipment, and working on public streets.
  • Exposure to stress as a result of human behavior, troubleshooting, and the possibility of 24-hour work demands in some situations.
  • Unconventional working hours and may be subject to call-back 24 hours a day.
