About the Position

The Asphalt Maintenance Program at Salt Lake City is seeking a skilled Asphalt Equipment Operator II to join our team. As a key member of our Streets Team, you will be responsible for operating a variety of light-to-medium sized equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a range of equipment, including trailers, rollers, ten-wheelers, and tank trailers, to perform maintenance and repair duties.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, including detecting and addressing issues before they become major problems.
  • Load, transport, and unload equipment, tools, asphalt, aggregate, and related materials and supplies.
  • Provide training to seasonal and hourly employees as needed.
  • Evaluate and document the operating condition of equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks.
Working Conditions

This is a physically demanding role that requires moderate-to-heavy physical activity, including pushing, pulling, or lifting medium-heavy weights (31 to 75 lbs.). You will be exposed to disagreeable elements such as extreme heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust, airborne particles, and grease. You may also be exposed to stressful situations due to human behavior and the demands of the job.

Requirements
  • Two years' related work experience, including equipment operation in general labor, construction, or a related field, or completion of the division's Asphalt Equipment Operator training program plus 6 months of experience.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tanker endorsement or a Class B CDL with the ability to obtain a Class A with the endorsement within 3 months of starting the position.
  • Flagger Certification or the ability to obtain within one month of hire.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work and relate well with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public in varying circumstances.
