About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Applied Information Sciences Branch, you will play a critical role in developing innovative solutions that address some of the nation's most pressing challenges in health and biosecurity, homeland protection, cyber security, and military special operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop cutting-edge software solutions that meet the needs of our customers.
  • Model and implement solid engineering principles, including architectural design, testability, scalability, and maintainability, to ensure the delivery of high-quality software products.
  • Apply technical, leadership, and relational skills to execute projects in highly collaborative environments, leading teams through the full software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and own high-quality code across all levels of the stack, from investigation to implementation to testing to release.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends, applying experiences with cloud infrastructure, architectural design, testability, scalability, and maintainability to drive innovation and improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree/experience.
  • At least 5 years of software development and engineering experience, with a strong background in programming languages such as C++, Java, and Python.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, NoSQL and relational databases, and Git, Gitlab Continuous Integration and Deployment.
  • The ability to obtain a Top Secret level security clearance, with eligibility requirements including U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with dynamic web front-end frameworks, Java/Kotlin desktop visualization frameworks, and enterprise cloud providers.
  • Strong understanding of API design, REST APIs, HTTP, and OAuth.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of leading teams and delivering high-quality software products.
