Key Responsibilities
The mission of the Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB) is to enhance the economic development of American Indians, Indian Tribes, and Alaska Natives through the promotion of Indian arts and crafts. The IACB is committed to improving the economic status of these communities while ensuring the preservation of a vital aspect of American heritage. The museums operated by the IACB play a significant role in promoting authentic Indian arts and crafts through various exhibitions and educational initiatives. The museum staff are essential advocates for educating the public about the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (IACA) and encouraging the reporting of any violations. The museums serve as key cultural, educational, and economic attractions in their regions.
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB), at one of the IACB museums.
At the full performance level GS-7, the primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the conservation, preservation, documentation, and care of museum collections.
- Assisting the Curator with exhibitions and outreach programs.
- Engaging in educational programs related to the Southern Plains Indian Museum or Sioux Indian Museum.
- Responsible for photographing arts and crafts collections.
- Supporting daily maintenance and clerical tasks within the facility.
- Greeting visitors and assisting with public relations concerning the museum.
Physical Requirements: The role requires physical exertion for tasks such as installation and maintenance of exhibitions, which may involve lifting moderately heavy items. Accurate color vision is necessary due to the involvement with visual arts.
Work Environment: The position is typically performed in a secure museum facility, adhering to strict security protocols. Telework is permitted only during emergencies or natural disasters.
Salary Information
GS-7: $49,025 - $63,733 per annum
New hires to the Federal government usually start at the lower end of the salary range.
This vacancy may be utilized to fill additional positions as they become available.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, candidates must meet one of the following:- (A) Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience. This includes experience related to the management of a museum or similar collection, such as collections management, cataloging, preservation, or conservation.
- (B) Education: One full academic year of related graduate-level education or superior academic achievement in fields such as art, history, or museum studies.
- (C) Combination: A qualifying combination of post-high school education and specialized experience that totals 100% of the qualification requirements.
