Job Summary

As a Rotor Wing Pilot with Air Methods, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within an assigned operational area. This role requires a high level of expertise in aviation and a strong commitment to safety and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner, adhering to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough pre-flight checks to ensure the aircraft is airworthy, and complete a walk-around inspection before each flight.
  • Make final decisions regarding aircraft operations and passenger safety.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of aircraft and medical systems, as well as Air Methods policies and procedures.
  • Complete required documentation and participate in regular meetings and activities.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and two to five years of related experience and/or training.
  • Commercial and Instrument Rating for the category and class of aircraft.
  • First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate.
  • Ability to conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain positive relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public.
Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program
  • 2000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1500 flight hours in the category.
  • 1000 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time in the category.
  • 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time.
  • 200 hours of cross-country flight time, with at least 50 hours at night.
  • 100 hours of unaided night as PIC, or 100 hours of Night Vision Goggle (NVG) time.
  • 50 hours of actual or hood instrument time in flight and in the category.
