Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Pilot Experience Product Designer to join our team at Garmin International, Inc. in Olathe, KS. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for guiding software user interface development for aviation products, including integrated flight decks and state-of-the-art cockpit designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design direction for small projects or sub-projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Conduct user interviews and observational research to create viable design solutions.
  • Develop interactive prototypes and conduct user tests to improve and validate designs.
  • Take ownership of key features in a product line, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
  • Stay current on user research methods and conduct effective research to generate and improve designs.
  • Collaborate with partners and potential partners to define the user experience.
  • Stay up-to-date with new prototyping, presentation, and computer graphics techniques and software.
  • Demonstrate full use of design standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions.
  • Present design ideas to various disciplines or customers.
  • Independently produce solid design solutions and provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced User Experience Designers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user-centered design principles, and a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience, or a minimum of 5 years equivalent combination of education and relevant experience performing the essential functions of the Garmin Product Designer role.
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule).
  • Proficiency and knowledge using a variety of design tools.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of good user interface design (consistency, simplicity, usability).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5).
  • Experience in graphics production, graphics editing technology, motion graphics, interactive design works, and/or videography.
  • Software skills using Figma, Blender, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or After Effects.
  • Pilot Certificate (Private Pilot license, Instrument rating, etc.).
