Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and providing assistance to certified staff in special education settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Certified Staff: Provide support to certified staff in delivering the instructional program, including reinforcing material introduced by the teacher.
  • Model Behavior: Serve as a model in developing students' language and behavior, promoting positive relationships and a supportive learning environment.
  • Resource Preparation: Collect, prepare, and arrange resource materials for use by certified personnel, ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to succeed.
  • Operate Equipment: Operate support equipment and monitor testing or make-up work by students, ensuring that students are able to complete assignments and assessments.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including classroom records and reports, as requested by the classroom teacher or principal.
  • Student Monitoring: Monitor student activities in classrooms, school grounds, hallways, lunchrooms, field trips, and bus loading areas, ensuring student safety and well-being.
  • Non-Instructional Duties: Provide support for non-instructional classroom duties, including monitoring snacks, restrooms, clothing areas, and participating in teacher-parent conferences and meetings.
  • IEP Goal Implementation: Reinforce the implementation of IEP goals using similar emphasis and techniques as the classroom teacher, ensuring that students receive the support they need to meet their goals.
  • Self-Help Skills: Train students in self-help skills, including eating, toileting, hygiene, behavior management, and academic skills, promoting independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Custodial Skills: Assist with custodial skills of students, including lifting, positioning, and adaptive equipment maintenance, using established procedures to ensure student safety and well-being.
  • Escort Duties: Escort students to other locations on campus and off campus, with the approval of the classroom teacher, ensuring student safety and well-being.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, and be at least 18 years old.
  • NCLB Highly Qualified Requirements: Must meet the NCLB highly qualified requirements, including 48 college credit hours or passing the Paraprofessional Test.
