Role Summary: The Assignment Editor Trainee at WINK News will engage in extensive training and mentorship aimed at acquiring vital skills in news collection, story creation, and newsroom management. This entry-level role presents a valuable chance to learn from seasoned professionals while playing a part in the overall news coverage strategy of our organization.

Primary Duties:

  • Assist in monitoring a variety of news outlets, including scanners, social media platforms, and news wires, to spot breaking news and story opportunities.
  • Support the assignment desk by investigating news stories, confirming facts, and aiding in story development.
  • Work collaboratively with reporters, photographers, and newsroom staff to coordinate coverage assignments and logistical needs.
  • Observe and learn from senior editors, gaining understanding in news judgment, story selection, and editorial decision-making processes.
  • Help maintain accurate and current information in newsroom databases and systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline (recent graduates or individuals pursuing degrees are encouraged to apply).
  • A strong enthusiasm for news, storytelling, and a genuine interest in building a career in journalism.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • A high level of curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn from experienced industry professionals.
  • A basic understanding of newsroom operations, journalism principles, and digital media tools is advantageous.
