About the Role:

As a Patient Registration Specialist at Upstate University Hospital, you will play a crucial part in ensuring smooth patient flow and prompt registration in our emergency department. Your primary responsibility will be to interview patients through a bedside registration process to obtain demographic and financial information. This may include informing patients of their insurance benefits, providing estimates of anticipated out-of-pocket costs, collecting amounts due, and offering payment plans or information about financial assistance programs. You will document the outcome of the financial portion of the registration in Epic and monitor the Epic Track Board throughout your shift to follow up on admissions. Additionally, you will complete appropriate forms before patients leave the ED when possible, update patients with revised financial estimates as needed, and assist with quality assurance and training initiatives.

*Salary:* $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will require an associate's degree and two years of related patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare setting. A working knowledge of medical terminology, billing requirements, familiarity with medical coding, and excellent written/oral communication skills are essential. Certified Health Access Associate (CHAA) certification is also required, with candidates who do not currently possess it needing to obtain certification within two years of appointment.

Work Schedule:

Days, evenings, and nights are available for this role, with opportunities for both full-time and part-time employment.
