POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision, the Substitute Teacher will fill in for regular classroom staff, engaging in educational activities, meal preparation, and interaction with children. Responsibilities will be executed in alignment with agency policies and relevant laws.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist regular classroom staff under their guidance on an as-needed basis.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards for both children and adults.
  • Facilitate daily activities utilizing appropriate educational materials.
  • Support meal and snack preparation as required.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the classroom and play areas on a daily basis.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and classroom volunteers.
  • Engage in meaningful interactions with children throughout the day.
  • Maintain professional relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of client information.
  • Contribute to team dynamics by utilizing established communication channels effectively.
  • Prioritize the health, safety, and supervision of children in the program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of child development principles and adult learning styles.
  • Understanding of bilingual and multicultural education principles.
  • Basic communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English is preferred.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and low-income families.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and regulations.
  • Competence in presenting information and responding to inquiries.
  • Basic mathematical skills for practical problem-solving.
  • Ability to interpret various forms of instructions.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Dependable, proactive, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Genuine interest in child development and family engagement.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of a background check prior to employment.
  • Current TB clearance (within one year).
  • Required vaccinations including MMR, Tdap, and highly recommended Flu shot.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six or more units in Early Childhood Education preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment may include outdoor conditions for a portion of the day. The noise level can vary from moderate to loud.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The role involves regular communication, standing, walking, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
