POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision, the Substitute Teacher will fill in for regular staff in the classroom, engaging in educational activities, meal preparation, and interacting with children. Responsibilities must align with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support regular classroom staff by following their guidance and working as needed.
- Adhere to health and safety standards for both children and adults.
- Facilitate daily activities using suitable materials.
- Assist with meal and snack preparations as required.
- Ensure cleanliness of the classroom and outdoor areas.
- Collaborate closely with teachers and volunteers.
- Engage in meaningful interactions with children throughout the day.
- Maintain professional relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Safeguard confidentiality of client information.
- Contribute to team dynamics through constructive communication.
- Prioritize the health, safety, and supervision of children at all times.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of child development principles and adult learning methods.
- Understanding of bilingual and multicultural education principles.
- Basic communication skills, both oral and written.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to interpret and apply procedures and regulations.
- Competence in presenting information clearly and responding to inquiries.
- Basic mathematical skills for handling measurements and calculations.
- Ability to solve practical problems with sound judgment.
- Capability to interpret various instructions in different formats.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- Dependable, proactive, and capable of working independently.
- Genuine interest in child development and family engagement.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass a background check prior to employment.
- Current TB clearance is required.
- MMR, Tdap vaccinations are mandatory; flu shot is highly recommended.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 6 or more units in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves working outdoors for part of the day, with moderate to noisy environments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must be able to communicate effectively, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, as well as depth perception.
