About the Role:

This position is a great opportunity for a Registered Nurse to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. As a PACU Recovery Room Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to post-anesthesia and post-operative patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete an age-appropriate assessment on each assigned patient and create a specific plan of care upon patient arrival
  • Obtain supplies, equipment, and medication needed for patient care
  • Monitor the patient throughout the recovery phase
  • Identify and correct airway obstructions, ensure uninterrupted oxygen therapy, and extubate patients
  • Administer IV therapy
  • Recognize and report variations in patient condition to the appropriate individuals (physician, anesthesiologist, clinical nurse coordinator)
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions prior to transport from Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Make rounds to check equipment cleanliness and appropriate storage
  • Monitor narcotic and medication control

Requirements:

  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a PACU Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Previous acute care experience – preferred

Education:

  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy
