Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Commercial Waste Collection Operator is responsible for driving a front-end load vehicle to ensure efficient, respectful, and thorough waste management services for business clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts thorough pre-trip inspections, including checking tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, and operational controls.
  • Operates heavy-duty diesel vehicles to transport waste from client sites to disposal facilities.
  • Positions waste containers for easy access by the truck and secures all enclosure gates as required.
  • Utilizes hydraulic controls to lift and load refuse, operate compactors, and dispose of collected materials at designated sites.
  • Ensures cleanliness of the vehicle by removing waste from the packer blade and truck body after each trip.
  • Engages courteously with clients, dispatchers, and management.
  • Responds promptly to accidental waste spills, ensuring the area is cleaned up effectively.
  • Interprets route sheets to manage daily schedules and services for each client as indicated.
  • Completes necessary documentation, including route/productivity reports and Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs).
  • Adheres to all check-in procedures upon returning to the facility at the end of the workday.
  • Complies with all company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Follows established safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Performs additional job-related tasks as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED

• At least five (5) years of experience operating a front-end load truck

• A valid Class B CDL without airbrake restrictions from the state of residence

• Proven experience operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) for a minimum of 12 months or 150,000 miles

• Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding the English language

DOT applications must be accurate and complete, including:

• A seven (7) year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with the application

• Documentation of all employment, unemployment, self-employment, and education for the past ten years, with verifiable activities from the last three (3) years

• Compliance with DOT medical standards, including passing a physical examination and drug screening by an approved facility

• No reckless driving violations in the past ten (10) years

• No license suspensions in the past ten (10) years

• Moving violations: 1-3 years: no more than one (1); 2-5 years: no more than two (2)

• No failed or refused drug or alcohol tests

• No felony convictions within the last ten (10) years; older convictions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

• No crimes against another person of any type

• Misdemeanors will be considered on a case-by-case basis

• No DWI, DUI, BAC, or Open Container convictions in the last ten (10) years

• Maintain a clean and professional appearance

• Successful completion of a road test

• Professional conduct and attitude

• Successful completion of a drug screening and background check is required for employment.

• Random and suspicion-based drug/alcohol testing will be conducted.

• Completion of a skills assessment test may be required.
