Position Overview:

As a Recreation Program Facilitator, you will be responsible for designing, leading, and overseeing a specialized recreational program or class under the guidance of the Parks and Recreation Superintendent. The areas of instruction may encompass various activities such as group fitness, wellness, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, dance, educational workshops, and personal development. Programs may cater to specific age demographics or be accessible to participants of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and conduct specialized recreational classes or programs, establishing clear objectives and outcomes. Demonstrate and clarify instructional methods to participants, ensuring engagement and adherence to industry standards.
  2. Prepare necessary instructional materials and equipment, maintaining an organized and safe environment.
  3. Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with participants, parents, and colleagues.
  4. Enforce departmental policies and maintain a positive atmosphere, reporting any equipment needs or safety concerns to the supervisor.
  5. Maintain accurate records, including attendance logs, incident reports, and other relevant documentation.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent is required, with prior experience in recreation preferred. A minimum of three months of experience in instructing specialized classes or three years of high-level participation in relevant activities is strongly preferred.

Licensing Requirements:
Certification from a nationally recognized organization in the relevant specialty area is typically required, along with current CPR/First Aid certification.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of recreational program development and management.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Capability to motivate and engage participants of varying ages and abilities.
  • Experience in organizing and promoting physical or enrichment activities.

Physical Requirements:
This position may involve various physical activities including climbing, balancing, standing, walking, and lifting. Candidates should be prepared to work in varying environmental conditions and may be required to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
