Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Roofing Specialist to join our team at the Newark Board of Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing general roofing work, including maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of roofs of varied composition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lays all kinds of commercial composition for the surfacing of roofs
  • Works with various machines and hand tools common to the roofing trade
  • May prepare or work from sketches, plans, and specifications in accordance with the building code and accepted trade practices
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
  • Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate
  • Three (3) years of experience in roofing work involving a variety of tasks in asphalt, and/or asbestos shingle, and/or tar, and/or composition, and/or general roofing work
  • Ability to use instruments to inspect the conditions of roofs
  • Ability to work from plans, specifications, and sketches
  • Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work
Working Conditions

The Roofing Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, often at heights, and will be required to lift heavy materials and equipment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
