Roofing Specialist

Join the Newark Board of Education team as a skilled Roofing Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for performing general roofing work, including maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of roofs of varied composition.
Key Responsibilities:- Cuts and fits roofing materials to ensure a watertight seal
- Works with various machines and hand tools common to the roofing trade
- Fastens composition to roof base using nails or asphalt cement
- Repairs copper and cloth flashing, scuttle doors, vent and drain pipes
- Spreads asphalt over roof with mop and spreads pebbles over asphalt with a rake
- Applies alternate layers of roofing paper and hot tar to build up a roof surface
- Erects working scaffold and prepares time and material estimates
- Inspects roofs, flashing, and gutters to determine their condition and completes required repairs
- Provides assignments to helpers and keeps records and files
- Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate
- Three (3) years of experience in roofing work involving a variety of tasks in asphalt, and/or asbestos shingle, and/or tar, and/or composition, and/or general roofing work
- Ability to work from plans, specifications, and sketches
- Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work
- Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use needed equipment, materials, and supplies
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position
This position requires working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions. The successful candidate must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment and materials.
Salary and Benefits:The salary for this position is $107,650 per year. The Newark Board of Education offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a retirement plan.
