Job Overview

Essential Qualifications: A minimum of one year of experience in a relevant nursing role with a valid nursing license. Current CPR/First Aid (BCLS) certification is required, preferably from the American Heart Association. Familiarity with 12-step recovery programs is essential, along with a minimum of one year of sobriety for those in recovery. Knowledge of detoxification processes for clients dealing with alcohol and substance use is necessary. Understanding of medications, their effects, and the ability to transcribe doctor orders, manage telephone communications, and maintain accurate nursing documentation is crucial. IV and blood draw training and certification are recommended. Effective communication with clients, physicians, and therapists in a professional and therapeutic manner is mandatory. Completion of training and a competency assessment prior to starting employment is required.

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Head Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.

Supervision Level: Daily and weekly oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Receive and review verbal reports at the beginning of each shift from the outgoing nurse. Acknowledge and sign the communication log.
  2. Conduct rounds on all clients, monitoring vital signs and withdrawal symptoms according to their care level (Detox or Residential). Detox clients should be monitored every 1-2 hours or as directed by a physician. Residential clients should be assessed as needed, following physician orders.
  3. Review client charts for new physician orders and medications, ensuring all documentation is current.
  4. Manage medication inventory and coordinate with the pharmacy to ensure timely delivery of medications.
  5. Verify any clients scheduled for passes or appointments during the shift, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared.
  6. Oversee admissions, discharges, and transfers, collaborating with the technician on duty to ensure compliance with facility policies.
  7. Obtain necessary consents from clients and request documentation from previous treatment facilities as needed.
  8. Monitor client behaviors and intervene according to their treatment plans and facility protocols.
  9. Assess situations where clients may pose a risk to themselves or others, following emergency protocols as required.
  10. Facilitate AMA and ATA discharges, coordinating with relevant staff members.
  11. Conduct weekly check-ins with clients regarding their progress and document findings in their charts.
  12. Assist in facilitating clients' daily activities based on their current care level.
  13. Participate in monthly staff meetings to discuss client care and facility operations.
  14. Support the technician in maintaining safety and security through regular facility rounds.
  15. Orient new clients to facility expectations and regulations.
  16. Perform additional duties as outlined in the Nursing Checklist or assigned by supervisory staff.
