The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for providing routine daily nursing care and services to residents in accordance with their assessment and plan of care, as directed by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and administer medications to residents in accordance with state regulations.
  • Administer medications according to the 5 rights: right medication, right person, right time, right dose, and by the right route.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality while preparing, administering, and documenting medications.
  • Maintain hygiene and current accepted standards for infection control.
  • Document accurately the provisions of medication(s).
  • Practice safety in application of medications.
  • Comply with the resident's right to refuse medications.
  • Report all medication errors immediately upon discovery.
Requirements
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile residents, family members, personnel, and visitors within the facility.
