Senior Materials Scientist Role

We are looking for an expert Senior Materials Scientist to lead our efforts in developing and implementing cutting-edge materials technologies for our Starlink satellites.

In this role, you will work closely with our engineering and production teams to overcome complex materials challenges and drive innovation in our satellite and ground infrastructure designs.

You will leverage your expertise in materials science, engineering, or a related field to champion new material technologies, solve technical challenges, and conduct rigorous reliability testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drive the development, qualification, implementation, and production stabilization of new material technologies for Starlink satellites.
  2. Solve complex technical challenges in specialties such as solar cell technologies, electronics packaging, space-survivable thermal control coatings, thermal interface materials, electronics components, optics materials, etc.
  3. Investigate material-related failures using hands-on laboratory testing and drive down root cause to first principles of materials physics.
  4. Participate in hardware design reviews to provide input on materials/processes in design and recommend innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  5. Mentor peers and team members on technical problem solving and collaborate closely with supply chain and production teams.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in electronic materials, solar cell technologies, space survivable coatings, EEE packaging, RF-transparent materials, and/or joining technologies (bonding, welding, brazing, soldering).

What We Offer:

The estimated salary range for this position is $125,000 - $175,000 per year. You will also receive comprehensive benefits, including long-term incentives, medical, vision, and dental coverage, and access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
