Job Summary

The AOD Counselor is a critical member of the Phoenix House team, responsible for delivering high-quality programming services to participants in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver face-to-face rehabilitative programming services to participants, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
  • Conduct group and individual sessions, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
  • Evaluate and document participant progress, developing collaborative and individualized treatment plans.
  • Document treatment outcomes using accepted methods and tools, maintaining accurate and confidential participant records.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforcing group rules and expectations, and protecting participant health, safety, and welfare.
  • Collaborate with CDCR/CCHCS and institutional staff to ensure seamless program delivery.
  • Adhere to scheduled program curriculum and maintain professional boundaries with participants.
  • Participate in required staff training sessions, completing all training on time, and attend program and staff meetings.
Requirements

The AOD Counselor must meet one of the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in a social service-related field and registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • A Master's Degree in a social service-related field and registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and one year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • An Associate's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and three years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • AOD certified and more than five years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in MS Office systems.
  • Ability to utilize an electronic healthcare record.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Ability to establish and consistently enforce appropriate boundaries with patients.
  • Ability to model positive behavior and demeanor.
  • Understanding of addiction, co-occurring models, and treatment modalities.
  • Understanding of patient development and family systems.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, problem solver, self-directed, customer service-oriented, and collaborative.
  • Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with patients and families of various backgrounds.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
