Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
As an Associate Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and evaluation of both underground and overhead transmission lines.
  • Creation of supporting structures and foundation designs.
  • Conducting clearance assessments and reviewing inspection reports.
  • Providing assistance for Drone, Vault, and Groundline operations.
  • Preparing documentation for regulatory and siting agencies, including drawings and reports.
  • Representing the Transmission Line Technical Engineering Group in various industry and regulatory forums.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist in drafting project initiation documents, including estimates and project scopes.
  • Support the design process using specialized software for transmission lines.
  • Develop technical details for siting and permitting, including public presentations.
  • Oversee design specifications and material lists for procurement and construction.
  • Document newly constructed Transmission Line facilities.
  • Review inspections related to vaults, pumphouses, drones, and groundlines.

Support for Maintenance and Operations:
In this capacity, you will:
  • Investigate and address disturbance reports for transmission facilities.
  • Provide engineering analysis to support the maintenance and operation of Transmission Line facilities.
  • Review external uses of Eversource rights-of-way to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Analyze data regarding the condition of Transmission Line assets and offer technical guidance for replacements or remediation.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments for information and guidance on transmission facilities.
  • Manage the spare parts program to ensure material availability.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
  • Understanding of civil, structural, and electrical engineering concepts related to Transmission Lines.
  • Familiarity with construction techniques specific to Transmission Lines.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and relevant state regulations.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as PLS-CADD, Microsoft Office, and others.
  • Insight into soil mechanics and geotechnical principles for foundation design.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.

Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in engineering is required, preferably in Civil Engineering. While no prior experience is necessary for the Associate Engineer level, experience in the electric utility sector is advantageous.

Working Conditions:
  • Availability for emergency restoration assignments as needed.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
