Job Overview

The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment within specialized areas such as surgical and peri-operative suites. This position emphasizes the importance of cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance to mitigate harmful pathogens, ensuring the well-being of patients, visitors, and staff. The EVS Technician is integral to upholding the standards of cleanliness and infection prevention, significantly impacting patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute cleaning and disinfection protocols for specialized units and equipment, including but not limited to Surgical Services and Endoscopy.
  • Apply knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles, ensuring the safe use of chemicals and proper handling of equipment.
  • Comply with all safety, risk management, and infection control standards, fostering a culture of safety.
  • Maintain accurate logs and checklists to document cleaning activities.
  • Perform cleaning tasks in accordance with established procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Demonstrate expertise in cleaning requirements for sensitive environments.
  • Stay informed about training and education related to evidence-based practices as per recognized health organizations.
  • Organize and restock environmental services supplies and equipment effectively.
  • Manage waste disposal by identifying appropriate waste streams.
  • Adhere to environmental and infection prevention protocols, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Respect patient privacy in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Additional Duties
  • Exhibit personal accountability in all tasks.
  • Utilize resources effectively to address and resolve issues.
  • Understand and implement facility safety protocols.
  • Operate and maintain all necessary EVS tools and equipment proficiently.
  • Assist in the onboarding process for new Environmental Services Technicians as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare environmental services is preferred.
Special Skills/Equipment
  • Ability to differentiate between levels of disinfection and perform necessary cleaning procedures.
  • Capable of articulating the differences in disinfection levels both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English at a 6th-9th grade level.
  • Exhibit strong listening skills and respect for diverse viewpoints.
  • Foster open communication with colleagues and team members.
Requirements Upon Hiring
  • Physical examination.
  • PPD (TB test).
  • Blood tests for specific antibodies.
  • COVID vaccination is mandatory.
  • Flu vaccination is required.
